Após a intervenção, um edital público irá selecionar entidades para desenvolver ações voltadas para a gastronomia, artesanato e apresentações culturais. A previsão é de que os serviços sejam concluídos durante o segundo semestre.
O secretário municipal de Turismo, Trabalho e Renda (Semttre), Leonardo Krohling, destacou a importância do espaço para a região. “A recuperação do tradicional Mercado São Sebastião vai movimentar ainda mais a região, com atividades gastronômicas, apresentações culturais e fomento do artesanato capixaba, sendo uma opção para os moradores e turistas que visitam a cidade”.
A obra está prevista pra custar cerca de R$ 105 mil.

O Mercado São Sebastião é um prédio de arquitetura neocolonial construído na primeira metade do século XX. Foi reformado em 2010 e passou a abrigar diversas manifestações artísticas. No entanto, em 2012, a obra apresentou problemas e o local teve que ser interditado.
Fundado em 1949, o local funcionou como um antigo ponto de encontro de moradores da região de Jucutuquara. A construção apresenta uma arquitetura que remete aos padrões das grandes cidades da época, como Rio de Janeiro e São Paulo.
