As mulheres que amamentam seus filhos têm riscos substancialmente menores de desenvolver câncer uterino, disseram pesquisadores do Instituto de Pesquisa Médica QIMR Berghofer, da Austrália. A Dra. Susan Jordan, chefe do grupo de pesquisas, afirmou que as mulheres que amamentam pelo menos uma criança têm um risco menor de contrair câncer do útero.

“Descobrimos que quanto mais as mulheres amamentavam, menor o risco de contrair câncer uterino, até nove meses, quando a redução do risco se estabiliza”, disse a cientista. A pesquisa sobre a ligação entre a amamentação e essa enfermidade foi a maior já realizada até agora, com a equipe da QIMR Berghofer analisando dados coletados de mais de 26 mil australianas, com mais de nove mil mulheres com câncer uterino.

“Descobrimos que as mulheres que já amamentaram tinham um risco 11% menor de desenvolver câncer uterino do que as mulheres que nunca amamentaram”, comentou a pesquisadora.

Também foi observada uma correlação interessante entre a duração da amamentação e subsequente redução da probabilidade de contrair câncer uterino, com mulheres que amamentaram por três a seis meses apresentado um risco 7% menor de desenvolver esse câncer e mulheres que amamentaram por seis a nove meses tendo seu risco reduzido em 11%.

“Em outras palavras, uma mulher que amamentou duas crianças por nove meses apresentou cerca de 22% menos risco de câncer de útero do que uma mulher que nunca amamentou”, disse a Dra. Susan Jordan. No entanto, como nem todas as mulheres são capazes de amamentar, ela explicou que existem outras coisas que elas podem fazer para reduzir o risco de câncer do endométrio ou uterino.
