Diante do sucesso de público e devido a grande demanda de visitas, a exposição ‘RB40 – Ronaldo Barbosa 40 Anos de Arte e Design’ foi prorrogada e permancerá em cartaz no Palácio Anchieta até 21 de janeiro de 2018. A mostra celebra os 40 aos de carreira de Ronaldo Barbosa, pioneiro do design no Estado e uma das principais referências na arte contemporânea.
Ocupando sete salas do Palácio, o fio condutor da exposição é o desenho, que transita por sua trajetória como designer e artista, desde a infância. Todos os seus projetos passam primeiramente pelo desenho e depois é que tomam forma nos processos tecnológicos. “O desenho é uma constante em minha carreira. Cada trabalho feito até hoje começou a partir de um desenho”, conta Ronaldo.
As instalações foram compostas por um acervo cuidadosamente selecionado pelo próprio Ronaldo e por sua equipe do Studio Ronaldo Barbosa, que ajudou na seleção dos projetos de design. Cerca de 70 obras representam sua produção artística desde 1969 até os dias de hoje, incluindo peças de acervos particulares, como das empresas Fibria e ArcelorMittal. A exposição apresenta trabalhos produzidos para a Davies Long Gallery, uma importante galeria de Los Angeles, onde Ronaldo viveu e trabalhou na década de 1980.
Em um painel de 18 metros lineares estão expostas todas as marcas criadas pelo Studio Ronaldo Barbosa – 240 ao todo. Entre elas, dois cases icônicos do Estado: as reformulações das marcas da TV Gazeta (2006) e do Banestes (2012). Também estão expostos os projetos de design dos museus.
Outros trabalhos podem ser revisitados, como o Espaço Brasil na França, um projeto realizado em Paris em 2005, os projetos dos Centros de Memórias (Garoto, Ultragaz, Águia Branca, Mineração do Rio do Norte, CST, Fundação Dom Cabral e Copersucar União).
Logo na abertura, o público se depara com alguns dos trabalhos atuais de Ronaldo. As obras em papel Fabriano feitos com lápis de cor, grafite e bastão a óleo tratam de uma espécie de crônica da vida social contemporânea. Outro momento marcante é a reserva sala que reproduz uma casa de estuque aos moldes das casas pomeranas de Pedra Azul, região serrana do Espírito Santo, onde está localizado o ateliê de Ronaldo Barbosa.
Construída pelo italiano Miro Trabach, a réplica da casa de montanha exibe um vídeo produzido por Lupino e ClaraBoia sobre o cotidiano de RN em seu refúgio capixaba. Peças de artesanato com a marca RB, produzidas por voluntárias do Instituto Jutta Batista da Silva também estão expostas no local.
Fechando a exposição está a Suíte Pedra Azul, que expõem uma série de cinco desenhos do cartão postal capixaba, uma revelação do olhar contemplativo e de reflexão que Ronaldo tem sobre seu refúgio.

A trajetória de RB sempre foi cosmopolita. Ele tem uma excepcional habilidade para lançar mão do que é local e transformar em uma linguagem universal. Foi assim lá atrás, na década de 1980, quando era professor da Ufes nos cursos de Arquitetura e de Design e lançou o vídeo Graúna Barroca, que rodou o mundo arrebanhando premiações. E é assim até hoje na gestão cultural do Museu Vale, que é considerado uma referência em arte contemporânea no País.
Seu escritório se tornou um dos mais importantes do país no ramo do design de exposições culturais, de implantação de museus temáticos e de centros de memória, acumulando projetos para instituições de prestígio Brasil afora. No desafio de criar museus, deu uma linguagem diferenciada, como o caso do Museu Vale, que está sob seus cuidados há 19 anos. E depois deste, vários outros projetos foram implementados pelo designer, artista plástico e multimaker.
É dele a autoria de museus como o do Náutico, no Farol da Barra, em Salvador, o Museu da Liturgia, em Tiradentes (MG), e Museu da Cachaça, em Salinas (MG). Também criou os Centros de Memória Ultragaz (SP), Copersucar União (SP), MRN (Oriximiná, Pará), Chocolates Garoto, Banestes e Águia Branca (ES). Todos eles serão representados, tanto no livro quanto na exposição, a partir de detalhados projetos expográficos.
A atuação como designer deu início em 1975, ano de sua formação em Desenho Industrial pela Escola Superior de Desenho Industrial (Esdi) do Rio de Janeiro, sendo o primeiro capixaba a se formar na área. Foi um dos fundadores do curso de Desenho Industrial da Ufes, onde deu aula por 27 anos. Não demorou em começar a se dedicar à criação de marcas. Poucos designers do País podem ostentar a criação de mais de duas centenas de marcas. Todas, sem exceção, estão no livro e podem ser conferidas na exposição.
