Morreu na madrugada desta sexta (04), aos 66 anos, o cantor e compositor Luiz Melodia, em decorrência do agravamento de um câncer na medula óssea. A informação foi confirmada pela assessoria de imprensa do músico, que estava internado no Hospital Quintas D’Or. O velório será na quadra da Escola de Samba Estácio de Sá, ainda sem horário confirmado.

A Estácio divulgou nota de pesar pela morte do cantor. “Nesta sexta-feira cinza, o nosso surdo chora. Um dos nossos amigos, torcedores e amantes do Berço do Samba se despede e, conosco, fica a saudade e a gratidão pelos momentos em que ele exaltou com amor, a nossa comunidade. #RIP Luiz Melodia”.

O filho do cantor, o rapper Mahal Reis, ainda não se pronunciou pelas redes sociais, bem como a esposa, a cantora, compositora e produtora Jane Reis. A assessoria de imprensa informou que será divulgada nota ainda hoje.

Nascido no Morro do Estácio, na zona central do Rio, em janeiro de 1951, Luiz Carlos dos Santos era filho do sambista Oswaldo Melodia e começou a carreira musical em 1964, quando formou a banda Os Instantâneos, ao lado dos amigos Manoel, Nazareno e Mizinho.

Tocando no morro, foi descoberto pelo poeta Wally Salomão, que o apresentou à cantora Gal Costa. Ela gravou a música Pérola Negra, de Melodia, no disco Gal a Todo Vapor, de 1972. Depois, Maria Bethania gravou Estácio, Holly Estácio e Melodia lançou o primeiro disco, Pérola Negra, em 1973.

Entre as canções de sucesso de uma consolidada carreira no Brasil e no exterior, estão também Codinome Beija-Flor, Negro Gato, Juventude Transviada e Ébano. Em mais de 40 anos de carreira, gravou 16 discos e teve participação em trilhas sonoras de 15 novelas ou minisséries.
