Nasa lançará sonda que atravessará a atmosfera do Sol em 2018

A Agência Aeroespacial dos Estados Unidos (Nasa) anunciou nesta quarta (31) o lançamento de uma sonda que chegará à distância mais próxima da superfície solar jamais alcançada por um artefato humano  para estudar as características físicas da atmosfera da estrela. A informação é da agência EFE.

A sonda Solar Probe Plus voará diretamente para a coroa solar e a atravessará pela primeira vez, chegando mais perto do Sol do que qualquer outro instrumento, ficando a “apenas” 6 milhões de quilômetros da superfície da estrela, algo extremamente difícil.

Em uma cerimônia na Universidade de Chicago, o chefe do programa de missões da Nasa, Thomas Zurbuchen, rebatizou a sonda com o nome de Solar Parker, em homenagem a Eugene Parker, o astrofísico que desenvolveu a teoria dos ventos solares supersônicos.

Até agora, várias sondas já se aproximaram do astro rei para estudar os ventos solares e a coroa solar, mas nunca a uma distância tão próxima, que poderia responder muitas perguntas sobre o comportamento do Sol.

A sonda Solar Parker foi projetada para obter dados em um ambiente de temperaturas extremas, com muita quantidade de radiação, e chega a alcançar uma velocidade de 200 quilômetros por segundo, o que permitiria que ela fosse da Terra à Lua em meia hora.

“Até agora, os materiais para que essa missão fosse possível não existiam”, indicou o cientista Nicola Fox, do Laboratório de Física Aplicada da Universidade John Hopkins, responsável por desenvolver parte dos componentes do equipamento.

Lançar uma sonda que chegue até o Sol é, até hoje, uma missão impossível. Para causar um impacto na superfície solar, uma sonda solar deveria ser capaz de atingir uma velocidade de 30 quilômetros por segundo na direção contrária da velocidade orbital da terra ao redor do astro rei, mas a tecnologia de foguetes atuais só conseguir cobrir um terço disso.

Para se aproximar do Sol e orbitá-lo em uma distância tão curta, a Sonda Solar Parker será acelerada pelo Delta IV Heavy, o foguete em serviço com a maior potência existente.

Várias sondas lançadas desde os anos 60 confirmaram as teorias sobre o campo magnético do Sol e a existência de ventos solares, além de permitirem observar o comportamento da coroa solar, que atinge temperaturas mais altas que a superfície do astro.
