PF investiga furto de mais de 420 obras da biblioteca da UFRJ

A Polícia Federal (PF) abriu inquérito para investigar o furto de mais de 420 obras do acervo de uma biblioteca da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). Entre os livros furtados da Biblioteca Pedro Calmon, na Praia Vermelha, na zona sul da capital fluminense, 303 são raros. A UFRJ, no entanto, ainda está fazendo um levantamento que pode aumentar ainda mais esse número.

De acordo com a universidade, o furto foi constatado em outubro do ano passado, quando a Polícia Civil de São Paulo encontrou obras de propriedade da UFRJ. Ao confirmar o furto, a instituição registrou o crime junto à PF e abriu sindicância para investigar eventuais responsabilidades.

A sindicância, que se encerrou em março deste ano, constatou que o processo de reforma do edifício na Praia Vermelha, onde está a biblioteca, pode ter favorecido a ação criminosa e que o roubo foi realizado por pessoa que possuía informação sobre a importância da coleção.

Como o número de obras furtadas é muito grande, uma nova sindicância foi aberta para aprofundar as investigações.

Levantamento

Representantes da UFRJ têm audiência hoje com a Polícia Federal para apresentar informações sobre o levantamento das obras furtadas. A ideia é que a PF e o Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional (Iphan) acionem também a Interpol, a polícia internacional, para identificar possível comercialização dessas obras no exterior.

Desde que constatou a subtração dos livros, a universidade informou que vem reforçando os mecanismos de segurança já existentes. Por meio de nota, a UFRJ fez um apelo às pessoas que tenham adquirido inadvertidamente as obras, para que as devolvam à instituição.

“Estamos diante de um golpe muito doloroso para a história da ciência e para a cultura do país, e para os pesquisadores que usam as obras para estudos de grande relevância. O fato é inaceitável sob todos os pontos de vista”, diz a nota.
