Vila Velha reduz quantidade de caramujos africanos na orla

A infestação de caramujo africano na orla da cidade diminuiu 60% desde que a Prefeitura de Vila Velha começou o trabalho de catação manual nas áreas de restinga, no dia 10 de julho. Dos aproximadamente 200 quilos/dia, a marca atual está em menos de 120. O trabalho continua sendo realizado pela Secretaria Municipal de Serviços Urbanos (Semsu) em dois turnos, com 14 funcionários de limpeza. As equipes utilizaram o recurso de armadilhas principalmente nos arbustos espinhosos e bem fechados. “O trabalho é delicado, pois são áreas de preservação ambiental. Não podemos jogar veneno. Tudo deve ser manual. O uso das armadilhas tem apresentado bons resultados”, disse a secretária municipal de Serviços Urbanos, Marizete de Oliveira.

Os caramujos coletados são levados para a empresa Corpus Engenharia, no bairro Divino Espírito Santos, para serem queimados. A infestação de caramujo não se restringe à orla. É comum em períodos de chuva encontrá-los em quintais e locais com muita vegetação, como terrenos baldios. “Manter quintais e terrenos sempre limpos é responsabilidade do proprietário e uma forma de evitar a infestação”, lembrou a secretária Marizete.

As pessoas que identificarem caramujos nos quintais devem fazer a mesma catação manual, observando as dicas:

– O caramujo deve ser coletado sempre com uma proteção nas mãos, como luvas descartáveis ou sacolas plásticas;

– Não se deve usar veneno, sal ou outras substâncias para matá-lo, pois podem contaminar o ambiente e não afetam o molusco completamente. Somente o cal virgem vai matar tanto os ovos quanto o animal adulto;

– Os caramujos recolhidos devem ser enterrados em uma cova de, aproximadamente, 40 cm utilizando o cal virgem no fundo da vala;

– Jamais ingeri-lo;

– O animal não deve ser esmagado, pois os ovos grudam na sola do calçado e podem ser espalhados pela cidade;

– Não transportá-los nem jogá-los vivos em áreas de vegetação.
